Our Story

Finland and Germany: two countries with a strong bread-baking culture. Bring the two together in the south of Sweden, and you have the beginnings of the Loshult Handelsbod story.

Salli & Raphael were far from sourdough experts when they started their home bakery in 2016. Equipped with little more than passion and sheer determination, they’ve spent the past decade providing artisan bread to the people of northern Skåne and southern Småland – always driven by simplicity and excellence.

Though they’ve since expanded from their kitchen to a fully-fledged bakery in the village’s former general store, Salli & Raphael’s original recipe still holds true: with great ingredients, time and craftsmanship, you really can’t go wrong.

So where to from here? Salli & Raphael’s wish is for the bakery to become a destination for experiences beyond the expected: a community-building hub centered around sustainable and delicious food. Watch this space grow!

Our Ingredients

Top quality flour and sustainable produced ingredients are the foundation of all our sourdough breads and pastries. We work closely with Limabacka Kvarn – a fifth-generation family mill. They mill only organic grain, and their small-batch system makes it possible to trace every bag of flour all the way back to the farmer.

We’re also working towards a 100% certified-organic ingredients list for all our goods.

Our Village Loshult

Loshult is a tiny village of roughly 90 inhabitants, just ten minutes south of Älmhult by car. Before its transformation into our bakery and café, the village’s Handelsbod (meaning general store) had a rich history spanning many decades. Inez & Svante ran the shop all the way until 1997, which is remarkable.

Salli & Raphael took ownership of the building in 2017 and undertook considerable renovations. The goal was to retain the authentic charm and history of the site, while incorporating simple, modern elements to give the building a gentle but well-deserved update. Welcome to Loshult!

The Basket Shop

This little shop is filled with baskets we've collected over the years.

Some are found locally, some picked up during travels, and quite a few were already here at Loshult Handelsbod when we bought this place back in 2017.

Most of the baskets are second hand, with a bit of wear and personality that we think makes them even more special.

Others are new, chosen for their craftsmanship and roots in traditional techniques. For us, old or new, they share the same spirit: functional beauty that's meant to be used and enjoyed every day.

What started as a hobby slowly turned into this little shop. Now we're happy to share our curated collection with you - baskets we use and love in our own everyday life.

Little Bread House

We started selling our own honey, vegetables and jams just on a ladder, but when we started to sell bread, we wanted to improve the weather stability.

Build simply on a pallet, fully made from reclaimed materials grew our own first little shop, just outside our doorstep.

Today the bread house has a new purpose.
We strive for zero waste in our bakery, so whenever we have any leftover from the bakery, we pack the products and sell them here.

How it works:
Our Bread House is open in the evenings
after 18:00, once our bakery closes. It’s a great way for us to reduce food waste and for you to enjoy our delicious bread and pastries outside of our opening times!

What’s available?
We offer everything remaining from todays bake. Items are packed and labeled clearly,
so you’ll know exactly what you’re getting.

Pricing:

  • Baked today: Full price

  • Baked yesterday: 50% off

  • Baked two days ago: Free!

How to pay:
You can pay by Swish, Cash or PayPal.

Thank you for supporting us. We’re happy to share our fresh, quality products with you!
